Object Lesson

We asked. We begged. We pestered.
We pleaded and cajoled.
We called upon the Senate
A budget to unfold.

We mocked their inattention.
We taunted Harry Reid.
We asked their party leader,
The One, to intercede.

For years they dodged their duty.
For years they let it ride.
For years on autopilot
They let their spending glide.

Sit ludos incipiunt

The man in the miter
Is known as a fighter
For Christ and the sheep of his flock.
But liberals will loath him
And clamor to clothe him
In filth from his miter to frock.

A sort will him slander
For nothing is grander
Than covering churchmen in grime.
Yet more will malign him
And try to define him
A partner or culprit in crime.

Abusing and bellows
May frighten some fellows
But Francis will smile and nod.
And as they defame him
He’ll pray to inflame them
With love for his Savior and God.

Room and Board

I fired up my private jet
To take a weekend jaunt.
I planned to visit Washington,
New York, and then Vermont.

But dinner in the capitol,
With all the drinks I had,
Reduced my wallet down to size
And left me short a tad.

I soldiered on to Kennedy
And grabbed a limousine,
Before my business partners showed
And made an ugly scene.

Day One

When morning came, I jumped from bed
And ran to raise the shade.
To my surprise, the sun was up;
The light was not delayed.

I turned the tap to brush my teeth,
And from it water flowed.
To my surprise, it did the same
For shower and commode.

I turned the knob to light my stove;
To my surprise it lit.
The broadcast stations for my tube
Continued to transmit.
