Magic Spectacles

Chief Justice Roberts’ spectacles
Are special to be sure,
They help him see beyond a law
And read it as de jure.

Those very special spectacles
Enhance his failing sight,
And change intention of the words
Displayed in black and white.

The magic that the lenses make
Is tricky to achieve,
But lets the justice see a thread
That Congress didn’t weave.

An Honest Politician

The voters now are dumber
Than those who came before.
And every reelection
They prove it even more.

What with their IQs falling
The herd came out to vote,
And kept me here in office:
Their congressman of note.

With ever better margins
They sent me back again,
To regulate the country
With other lesser men.

The Post-Democracy President

To hell with the Congress!
To hell with the law!
To hell with debaters
Who hem and who haw!

While time is a wasting
To salvage my lot,
The Congress is frozen
And doesn’t do squat.

They dilly and dally.
They dally and dill.
And nothing is moving
On Capitol Hill.

Nancy Does Religion

I do religion Sundays,
And sometimes in between,
On Arbor Day and Earth Day,
And twice on Halloween.

And when I do religion
I feel all warmed inside,
By subsidized abortion
And LGBT pride.

I worship at the altar,
In ancient, sacred rites,
Of gratis contraception
And reproductive rights.
