Below the Salt

As Mayor Bloomberg wants to halt
Ingestion of excessive salt,
That which comprises shelter fare
Must be what they themselves prepare.

For those who give from want or need
A bit of food, the poor to feed,
Are famous for their incidence
Of sodium ambivalence.

And so the homeless are confined
To that which they are disinclined:
Nutrition of the highest mark
With all the flavor found in bark.

Which means, of course, the shelter fare
Is paid from taxes all must bear,
Instead of those who wish to part
With food prepared by hand and heart.

But Mayor Bloomberg and his ilk,
Who dine with wine and sleep with silk,
Are happy to forego the love
Which charity provides thereof.
